Events 2012

28.10.2012 - 'Open Day' of the Paderborn University

On Sunday, 28 October 2012, the university will open its doors on the university campus on Warburger Straße and invites all interested parties to get a taste of science.

The University Library will also be taking part with an interesting programme:

  • More than books - information stand

The University Library is the university's central service facility that provides research, teaching and study with academic literature and information in all forms and offers comprehensive services for information dissemination, information production and support for academic teaching and learning.
Get an overview at our information stand in the entrance area of the library!
  • Short guided tours of the library
    11.00-11.30, 13.00-13.30, 15.00-15.30

Take part in one of our short guided tours and get to know the university library and its wide range of offers and services!
Meeting point: in the entrance area of the library
  • We bring a book to the web - digitisation in the library
    11.30-12.00, 14.30-15.00, 15.30-16.00

The University Library pursues an offensive strategy of providing digital information media. It digitises historical books that appear relevant for the history of Paderborn University and for research into the history of the city and region.
We will show you how a book gets online. What needs to be considered when scanning old books in particular? What happens technically during scanning?
Meeting point: in the entrance area of the library
  • Library book bazaar

Browse through our book bazaar on level 5 of the library! For reasons of space, the University Library is parting with older literature on a wide range of subjects that is no longer needed.
A total of around 5,300 volumes from almost all departments are on offer.
The proceeds will be used to purchase new information media.
  • The place of knowledge - library exhibition
  • Guided tours through the exhibition "WissensRäume der Paderborn University. Building for teaching, study and research" in the foyer of the Audimax, 11.00-11.30, 13.00-13.30 and 15.00-15.30
As part of the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the University, the University Archive is showing the exhibition "WissensRäume der Paderborn University. Building for teaching, study and research".
On the open day, the curator of the exhibition, Dr Anikó Szabó, will give guided tours of the exhibition at 11.00 am, 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm.
  • How well do you know the University Library?
Answer our five questions correctly and with a bit of luck you will receive one of 280 USB bracelets, each with 2GB of memory.
Every hour on the hour (11.00-17.00) we will exchange 40 correctly completed prize cards (which will be distributed on the open day) for 40 USB bracelets.

The library will be open on the 'Open Day' during the usual Sunday opening hours from 9.00-21.00.
